Jackson Hospital Participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Hospital news | Thursday, April 7, 2022

Contact: Jessica Barefoot

Jackson Hospital will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 30, 2022. Jackson Hospital will be accepting unused or expired prescription drugs at the Jackson Apothecary on the hospital campus at 1758 Park Place (in the old Walgreens space).

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration has been hosting the drug take back event for over 10 years, and routinely collects over 400 tons of prescription medication across the country. The DEA collects these medications and properly disposes of them, eliminating the illegal retrieval of disposed prescription drugs and the contamination from flushed prescription drugs.

According to the DEA, the non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in the country. Prescription drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or doctor supervision.

Community members who wish to dispose of their unused or expired prescription drugs can visit the Jackson Apothecary on April 30, 2022 from 10am-2pm.
