Jackson Hospital announces new Chief Nursing Officer

Hospital news | Monday, January 14, 2013

Jackson Hospital announces the promotion of Sharon Goodison to vice president, patient care services and chief nursing officer (CNO).

Goodison joined the hospital staff March of 2011 as Assistant Vice President, Patient Care Service of Medical Surgical and Women’s Services. She has served as the interim CNO for the past eight months, and was instrumental in leading the hospital through the recent successful Joint Commission survey.

“During her time as interim chief nursing officer, Sharon has demonstrated a highly effective ability to lead the clinical team at Jackson Hospital,” said Joe B. Riley, president and chief executive officer, Jackson Hospital. “She will serve as a senior administrator providing leadership for all clinical competencies and the care of our patients at Jackson Hospital, and we are confident in her exceptional qualifications that fit this role.”

Goodison continues to focus on the growth and development of nursing staff, leading the implementation of shared governance, development of a clinical ladder, and a peer review process. As CNO, she will work in conjunction with the medical staff, board of directors and the senior administrative team to ensure the care provided to those we serve is excellent and ever improving.

Goodison received her nursing degree from Daemen College in New York, and her master’s degree from Medaille College Accel Program in New York as well. She is Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)-trained in CNO Development Program, which included programs on quality, physician relationships, and leadership in Nashville, Tennessee. Goodison is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
