Organ donation: Making more miracles possible

Hospital representatives were presented a Medal of Honor for Organ Donation for achieving and sustaining national goals for donation, including a donation rate of 75 percent or more for eligible donors at the facilities.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presented awards to 307 hospitals for their success in increasing the number of organs available for transplantation. Jackson Hospital was one of four Alabama hospitals to be recognized at the Sixth National Learning Congress for the Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice in Grapevine, Texas.

“The Alabama Organ Center is proud of our hospitals’ commitment to organ donation,” said Dem Lalisan, director, Alabama Organ Center. “These awards represent more lives saved by organ transplantation because donors and their families generously gave the gift of life.”

To raise public awareness, Jackson employees wore organ donation T-shirts during the month of April. Also, a flag-raising ceremony on April 14 honored donor families and recipients.
