New center for mental health

The center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Jackson Hospital is pleased to announce the opening of the first mental health assessment center of its kind in the tri-county area. Located right here on our campus, the center is a joint effort between Montgomery Area Mental Health Authority and Jackson Hospital. Funding for this service is provided by the Montgomery Mental Health Authority and the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

“Jackson Hospital is proud to be a part of this effort to donate resources to our community to assist the overall treatment effort of patients who need mental health services,” said David Hughes, project manager. “This is a brand-new model that was conceptualized by the Montgomery Area Mental Health Authority, and we’re excited about this team effort to make a difference.”

The center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients will come to the center from various venues throughout the city, including the local emergency departments as well as other mental health facilities. It is not a walk-in care facility.

Patients stay at the center for anywhere from 24 to 48 hours while the Montgomery Area Mental Health team determines the most appropriate next steps for each patient.
