Jackson Hospital - The Area's First and Most Experienced Robotic Surgery Program
Using the latest technology to perform more procedures
Jackson Hospital was the first hospital in the region to offer robotic surgery. Now more than three years and more than 500 procedures later, we have the most experienced surgeons backed by a specially-trained team of robotic support staff to care for you.
Using the da Vinci® Si™, the latest robotic surgical system, our trained surgeons can offer patients a minimally invasive alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopic surgery. And Jackson Hospital is the only hospital in Central Alabama to offer Single-Site gallbladder removal!
Using the da Vinci system, the surgeon operates while seated comfortably at a console viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. The surgeon's fingers grasp the master controls below the display, with hands and wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes. The system seamlessly translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient.
Urologic, Gynecologic and General Surgical Procedures
The da Vinci surgical system is used by highly trained surgeons at Jackson Hospital to perform a number of urological, gynecological and general surgical procedures including:
With the robotic system surgeons are able to perform surgery as close as 2 inches away from the operation site, unlike traditional laparoscopic surgery which typically allows only contact from an arm’s length away. This close contact allows unmatched precision and the ability to spare delicate nerves and other tissues.
More Benefits for the Patient
The da Vinci system enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions. This is good news for patients. With incisions no more than a few centimeters in diameter, patients may experience:
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- A shorter recovery time
- A faster return to normal daily activities
- In many cases, better clinical outcomes
