Primary Care
At Jackson Hospital we have primary care physicians who are qualified to help patients with health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, patient education, and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses. Our doctors are conveniently located on our hospital campus, thereby providing easy access to specialists and referral relationships for specific care needs.
If you have a health problem, a primary care doctor is usually your first medical contact. You don't have to visit a specialist to get special medical care. Your primary care doctor can treat most injuries and illnesses. Through regular checkups and screenings, he or she may also detect symptoms of more serious illnesses, such as cancer and heart disease, at an early stage. Primary care doctors can provide long-term treatment and care, or refer you to a specialist if needed. Primary care doctors are also a great source of information for health education and disease prevention.
At Jackson Hospital we have both male and female doctors who range in age and experience. We will help patients find the right fit for their needs.
Choosing a doctor
A primary care doctor receives training in all major medical areas and may be, for example, a general or family practitioner, a pediatrician, a geriatrician, or an internist.
When you're seeking a primary care doctor, you should find out whether the doctor is board-certified. This means the doctor has extra training after medical school to become specialized in a primary field, such as family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics or geriatrics.
All of our primary care doctors at Jackson Hospital are board-certified, and are currently accepting new patients. Once you have narrowed your choices, consider making an appointment to get acquainted.
Finally, keep in mind that open communication is essential to any good doctor/patient relationship. Choose a primary care doctor you feel comfortable with—one with whom you can freely discuss any health problem, from managing a chronic disease, such as diabetes, to overcoming a more intimate concern, such as incontinence.
